Performance Guidelines
Please read the following guidelines before submitting a performance request.

Compensation for Performances

Unless otherwise specified on a case-by-case basis, all performers at Catalyst Café will receive 80% of door fees, 1 free meal, and 1 free beverage per show. To ensure proper calculation of payment, the door fee will go to the head of the group or individual performer after the performance.

This excludes Imperial Court performers as the Imperial Court system is a registered non-profit and is bound by its own guidelines to not receive payment. They are, however, allowed to accept food and beverages during their performances.

Check or electronic payment is preferred for all performance payments, but cash will be allowed on a case-by-case basis.

Performers are permitted and encouraged to solicit tips as well as promote other shows and sell their own merchandise.
Performer Behavior and Conduct Expectations

Behavior that violates the boundaries of either individuals or Catalyst Café, presents risk of harm to individuals or Catalyst Café, and/or causes undue financial hardship to Catalyst Café or its patrons will be grounds for an immediate ban from performing at Catalyst Café and affiliated events.

Performers will not be permitted to perform while visibly intoxicated any attempt to perform while intoxicated could result in a ban from performing at Catalyst Café and affiliated events.

Conduct exhibiting racism, homophobia, fatphobia, transphobia, ableism, misogyny, cultural appropriation (e.g. blackface, dread locs on white people), theft, bullying, non-consensual interactions with anyone (including harassment), generally dangerous conduct, and close-minded attitudes toward how drag is “supposed to be” will not be tolerated either during performances or outside of the café.

Varying performances covering all kinds of drag and other art forms are welcome and encouraged. Sensitive and potentially triggering topics from any kind of performance must come with a pre-warning. Acts involving nudity and/or sexual in nature must be performed only during shows that have been advertised as catering to an adult (ages 18+) audience.

Performers are expected to treat fellow performers, venue staff, and patrons with the utmost respect at all times. This includes:

submitting music, riders, written needs, and any other requested documentation before expressed deadlines.

arriving to the venue with a prepared act/performance and all required accessories on time before show start time.

obtaining consent before touching any other person for any reason.

maintaining a tidy workspace and cleaning up after yourself.

being considerate of and allowing others ample access to shared resources (e.g. private bathroom, mirrors).

obtaining consent before using anything that doesn't belong to you, Theft will absolutely not be tolerated.

New Performers/Performances
Any drag performers not having previously performed at Catalyst Café or its affiliated events must perform at one Community Night event as well as be vetted before being allowed to perform at a paid event. Vetting will include combing social media, consulting trusted community contacts, and an in person conversation. Evidence of behaviors that violate the aforementioned performer behavior expectations will result in the requesting person/group not being permitted to perform at Catalyst in the future.
All other acts will be vetted on a case-by-case basis.

Performers of all types must submitted a performance request no less than 30 days before their desired performance date.
